I once travelled happily alone. Then the most beautiful thing happened and suddenly I was half of two; two became one. But before I could start to document our life together, his life was tragically gone. My darling Ems is now in the bright lights of Heaven and I remain. This is the story of my journey from here. Gratefully a journey that One whose ways are above all of ours takes with me. One day I'll reach those bright lights for myself but until I do, join me on my journey, keeping memories close.

  4. You are to be congratulated on your honesty and strength. Your late husband, I am sure, would be so proud of your dignity and your dedication to his life and his memory which comes across so naturally. I am married to my soulmate and best friend, we had scares where he was injured at work on several occasions but I could not imagine what you have gone through and probably still are going through. I am so glad you had the opportunity to have that experience no matter how short it was. Its no good wishing it had been longer is it but I wish it had. You deserved to be a couple for an awful lot longer. Thank you for sharing your story. I am going to read every one of your blog entries. I hope todays radio programme has helped you although I am sure emotionhs today are especially stirred. I wish you well for the future. Liz

  7. I think Liz has already said it all. The interview was excellent, despite your pain you were so eloquent and I'm sure your story and struggle will bring much comfort to others going through similar challenges. We must all celebrate life and count each day as a blessing. I love this quote by Thomas Campbell "to live in hearts we leave behind, is not to die at all' and Ems still lives within every beat of your heart.
I hope your journey continues to bring light and new adventures and you continue to achieve things you never thought were possible. Liz

  8. Sorry Ruth, I had to say just one more thing. Ems can take some credit for your strength and courage and reading through your blog, I feel you bought out the best in each other and that allows you to have confidence, strength and courage. What a partnership! All this said. No. You shouldn't be going through it. I am still affected by your interview and your blog. I've never felt so helpless! I love the quote the "other "liz mentioned. I hope you feel that to be true. Good luck Ruth you are an amazing woman with an amazing man behind you.

  9. Just caught your broadcast on R2. I'm a bereavement counsellor and, during my 17 years in the job, I have met so many young widows. Just wanted to say you are fantastic. No doubt you didn't set out to be an inspiration, but that's what you've become. Life takes us down many unexpected paths; it's how we react to that unexpectedness that makes us who we are. As Kipling wrote: "If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same". Triumph... disaster... you are wonderful despite them both, not because of them. Good luck to you, Ruth.

  10. I heard your touching experience on the Jeremy Vine show at lunchtime today, I can't believe just how well you have done since your disastrously sad & sudden loss, I was working on my home & I had to stop what I was doing, I was welling up hearing of your experiences, although I have never suffered the loss of a partner, I could feel everything that you were feeling, you are an extremely courageous young lady, incredibly brave, I really hope that things turn around for you & that from that cloud comes a silver lining, words fail me to say any more, I just wish you well, I will be thinking of you, I can only offer you support in any way possible, I really wish I could bring your husband back.

    Take care.

Lots of love & best wishes to you

  16. Thank you for sharing your journey with so many. You spoke to well and put over exactly what it is like to loose a partner. I was like you put into words what I feel like too. I was praying for you at the time and will continue to pray for you. God is with you never forget that you will never be alone.

  17. Hi Ruth. Just hoping you are ok as the blog is quiet. I realised that you don't write every day so its probably ok. Hope the radio programme didn't take too much out of you. If it did, then this is reminder that there is a point to you carrying on and Em will always be a footstep by your side. Hope you are keeping strong Ruth. Liz
